"Moses" led approximately 70 slaves to freedom in the northern United States and Canada by way of the Underground Railroad. She worked for the Union Army during the Civil War during which she led a raid along the Combahee River that freed over 700 slaves. She fought for women's rights post war and retired to property she purchased in Auburn, NY where she fell into poverty as she looked after family and friends that she helped free.
